I need to travel to the registry office at Retford, Nottinghamshire and purchase this marriage certificate:

John Allen and Fanny Littlewood
Marriages: Sep 1850
District: East Retford
Volume: 15 Page: 739

I expect their respective births to precede the 1837 start date for birth certificates.

Mary Ann Turner abt. 1860

So far this certificate has eluded me. I am wondering if I need to check other counties.

Update: 2010-01-13 Having looked at this problem again, and checked the Sheffield Register Office BMD database, I have found for 1859 +3 -3 years numerous entries of Mary TURNER and Mary Ann Turner. This looks the most likeliest:

District: Ecclesall Bierlow
Birth - 44/56
Details: Mary Ann TURNER - 01/01/1859

With family history things are never straight forward.

I thought I would order Lydia's birth certificate. I know her date and place of birth. Checked on the Cambridgeshire County Council website and the only match using wildcards and soundex is the top entry. On her marriage certificate (which I already have) her forename is Lydia. Further searches for a death certificate in 1922 (I have her death, burial dates and place) show only an Eliza Jacklin (the ONLY Jacklin in 1922). So it looks as though Lydia may have been her middle name and Eliza her forename. Further searches using this information produces the second result Eliza L. This looks more likely. Whatever, this should be fun!
