William Horace Bellamy 1909-   5 weeks 5 days ago
Hi, This is my grandfather, I am the daughter of Valerie Straw nee Bellamy. Grandad use to take myself, sister Michelle and brother Mark to see Emily Bellamy nee Ellis in Middlewood Hospital every Saturday morning to visit. She used to sing ditties to us ...most memorable Thomas Dodd he was a sod, his a*se was made of clay, he let a f*rt behind the cart and blew the wheels away :D I attended her funeral in 1978 at the age on 9 years old. William Horace Bellamy had a large family and Uncle Edwin his brother was my mother's godfather. I also attended his funeral and remember him fondly as a very jolly soul. Lyndsey Bellamy daughter of Thomas Leslie Bellamy and Betty Sambrook I knew as a child as we lived not far from each other and have many childhood memories of playing in the garden togther. The grandchildren and surviving children of William Horace can provide lots of information and I am sure photographs. Thanks for this wonderful trip down memory lane for me and my mother and my many cousins!!

John Ashforth died 1768 and William Ashforth died 1825 - Headstone   1 year 47 weeks ago

I wish I could track down his family, grew up not knowing any of them. All I ever met was my Grandmother once who loved in Cinn, Ohio. I think I have family in the New England area.

Joseph Allen and Hannah Allen   2 years 20 weeks ago

Edgar, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. Research shows there to be several ALLEN lines in and around the Clarborough, Nottinghamshire area. This information is very welcome and I will make Juanita aware of these facts, since she too is researching an ALLEN line from this area.

Joseph Allen and Hannah Allen   2 years 20 weeks ago

The Gravestone to which you refer is that of my late grandfather Joseph and grandmother Hannah Allen. You are indeed correct with regard to the differences in their ages and the same curiosity that led me to trace my family tree. My grandmother Hannah or as I found her real name Annie married my grandfather in 1912 in Lincoln. He was aged 60 and she was 20. Hannah was my grandfathers second wife and had been the housemaid to him and his first wife Anne when they lived in Sheffield. I have not been able to establish why, but after the death of his first wife my grandfather moved to Carr Road in Lincoln. When he married Hannah (Nee Annie Hodkin) she was already 7 months pregnant with my Aunt Emma and clearly the reason they married.

So far I have traced the male line of my family Allen back to 1720 in Sheffield where they were cutlers and file makers. I have not been able to trace any association to the Allen's that lived in the villages of Little Grindley [sic] Little Gringley and Clarborough.

Good wishes and good luck with your research.

Edgar Allen

I tried to send a message using the 'feedback' option. Unfortunately after I had typed a rather long note I discovered I was limited to 1000 characters. Hence I shortened the note and gave you my e-mail number in case you wanted me to send you the info I have found out to before 1741 (this took approx 70 lines of text).
Please advise what you would wish me to do.

My LITTLEWOOD lineage goes back from Fanny LITTLEWOOD abt1832 > Joseph LITTLEWOOD abt1811 > James LITTLEWOOD.

I have James LITTLEWOOD married to Sarah BURTON 1799, with 10 children:
Mary, Ann, Elizabeth, John, Joseph, William, George, Samuel, Sarah and Jane.

My notes show this information came via a 3rd party and I have not had time to verify its accuracy. I also have further information courtesy of a website.

I would be very pleased to receive further information on this line. Please contact me using the Contact form and if you wish we can exchange information.

Thanks very much for taking the time to comment.

I have researched the Littlewoods at St saviours and confirm Samuel Littlewood married Mary Clarke 8th June 1835. Unfortunately Mary died on 23 August 1838 - I think from giving birth to a son, Nathan who also died 3 days later. Samuel went on to re marry in December quarter of 1838 and Married Elizabeth Parker. Their first child, Mary was born 10 June 1839. Mary married Thomas Moore (born Retford 1831). I do have more info on Samuel Littlewoods' parents and grandparents which I should be glad to pass on if this is helpful.my lineage goes back through the Mary Littlewood/Thomas Moore line.

Little Gringley, Nottinghamshire   4 years 41 weeks ago

Keith, thanks for your comment. I was in the area this weekend so I paid a brief visit to St. Saviours. I took some photographs and inspected some of the headstones. Could not find any with the family names I'm looking for: ALLEN and LITTLEWOOD.

Don't know if this ties into your family anywhere but my 4xgreat grandfather was a bricklayer in the North Walsham area of Norfolk as was his father & grandfather. He was Philip Hart bpt 1787 married to Mary Barber. His granddaughter Sarah Jane Hart (my gg grandmother)moved to County Durham in the 1860's.

Ashforths in Sheffield also include Samuel, b. 04/02/1699; his son, George Ashforth, B. 1730 was master silversmith. GA had several companies and several Hallmarks.

Ashforths in Birmingham include Robert Thomas, Master Silversmith, Journeyman, and his family. They migrated to the USA around 1881.

This is a strange coincidence... My grandmother Emily Rodger (nee Flower) had two sisters, Florrie and Annie.Florrie died aged 106 in about 1992, Annie & Emily must have been 15 years earlier. All lived in Sheffield. Grandfather Earnest Rodger originally came from Glasgow; son of George.

To Neil Jacklin

I found your web site whilst browsing the web for Rosewarnes. I have have done some research on the Sheffield branch of the Rosewarnes, as they were related to my own branch which settled in Derbyshire. Two two branches descend from two brothers William (Sheffield) and John (Derbyshire).

If you would like the information I have on these families please contact me.

I did try to log on to your web site, but it appears`I failed

(By the way I supplied the information on the marriage of Thomas Rosewarne of Sheffield to Emily greaves)

Frederick Rotherham   6 years 27 weeks ago

It is a while since I wrote this post and I had to spend a few hours getting my head around this line of the family. I now have access to the 1901 British Census returns for George Albert BELLAMY born circa 1880 which has confirmed some of my research, though anything further back than this is still unconfirmed.

Do you have any further details regarding Richard or Frederick ROTHERHAM? I am still a little confused as to my train of thought at this time and any details you have may help disentangle some of the notes I made.

If you wish, contact me by email using my Contact form.
