IT updates

Article

I have spent the last couple of evenings upgrading the underlying technology of my family history websites. The Google Maps module on this site is now working again, so now the only outstanding problem is importing the HTML based 'Family Groups'.

'Family Groups' are created with a very useful Perl script found on the boldts.net website. This script parses a GEDCOM file and outputs it as a number of hyper-linked pages of family groups. I usually import these HTML pages into my Family History Journal site where they can be viewed as themed pages. Until a module with this functionality is available for Drupal v5.0 CMS (Content Management System) I'm afraid the 'Family Groups' links can only be viewed in very basic HTML, though the underlying functionality is still available.

PhpGedView which supports my http://jacklin.info and http://ashforth.info has been upgraded to version 4.0.2. PhpGedView imports a GEDCOM file and displays it as a family tree, with numerous options for viewing and searching the data, together with comprehensive print capabilities.

In order to reflect recent additions and corrections to my family tree my GEDCOM has been updated and my family history websites now reflect these changes.

Updates

2012-01-27 Most of this is now deprecated. Drupal 5.x has been upgraded to Drupal 6.x. The domains jacklin.info and ashforth.info still exist but eventually will be devoted to the surnames JACKLIN and ASHFORTH. 'Phpgedview' and 'Family Groups' have been replaced by 'The Next Generation Genealogy'.
