Bellamy - Bellarmy
Article
Earlier this year I obtained the 1901 British Census return for the household of Joseph BELLAMY 1857-. This is an outline of my transcription:
Census: England and Wales Census 1901
Place: 156 Martin Street, Sheffield, Yorkshire
Household: Joseph Bellamy
| Surname | First name(s) | Rel | Status | Sex | Age | Occupation | Where Born | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bellamy | Joseph | Head | Married | Male | 44 | File Cutter | Sheffield, Yorkshire | |
| Bellamy | Mary Ann | Wife | Married | Female | 40 | Undefined | Sheffield, Yorkshire | |
| Bellamy | George Albert | Son | Single | Male | 21 | File Cutter | Sheffield, Yorkshire | |
| Bellamy | Mary Alice | Daughter | Single | Female | 16 | Undefined | Sheffield, Yorkshire | |
| Bellamy | Edith | Daughter | Single | Female | 11 | Undefined | Sheffield, Yorkshire | |
| Bellamy | Edward | Son | Single | Male | 2 | Undefined | Sheffield, Yorkshire |
Studying in more detail this information, I realise my previous research is probably flawed. To read my earlier post please click here. I have a copy of the marriage certificate for George Albert BELLAMY 1880- and Emily ELLIS 1883-1978 so I can validate George Albert BELLAMY 1880-'s father being recorded as Joseph BELLAMY 1857- and his mother as Mary Ann BELLAMY (née Mary Ann TURNER 1860-).
Searching the 1881 census I realise the problem is quite simple; BELLAMY is now BELLARMY.
Census: England and Wales Census 1881
Place: 89 Martin St, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
Household: Joseph Bellarmy (Bellamy)
| Surname | First name(s) | Rel | Status | Sex | Age | Occupation | Where Born | Remarks |

| Bellarmy * | Joseph | Head | Married | Male | 24 | File Cutter | Sheffield, Yorkshire | Unemployed |
| Bellarmy * | Mary Ann | Wife | Married | Female | 20 | Sheffield, Yorkshire | ||
| Bellarmy * | George Albert | Son | Single | Male | 1 | Sheffield, Yorkshire |
* Undoubtedly this should be Bellamy

I will add a note to my earlier posts expressing my doubts as to the accuracy of the data.
